Anny Withey believed it was possible to build a socially conscious and successful business. Back in 1989, she put her beliefs to the test. She co-founded Annie’s Homegrown and started making delicious Mac & Cheese and selling it from her car trunk, just like an up-and-coming musician selling demos. Nearly 30 years later, Annie’s Homegrown still holds Anny’s original values. The Berkeley, California company continues to innovate and push themselves to do better. Employees ride bikes to the office, snack on veggies grown in the back-office garden and even use scratchy, recycled toilet paper. Everyone at Annie’s is dedicated to doing whatever it takes to make the world a better place. In 2014, Annie’s partnered with General Mills in order to create new organic food lines and expand their reach. In the process, they’ve developed 50 new certified organic products and doubled the amount of organic ingredients they purchase each year. Through it all, they’ve stayed accountable to their customers and they’ve managed to keep Annie’s weird.
